An Episcopal priest living in Boston, most of George's active ministry was as a Navy chaplain. He retired as a Captain at the end of 2005. His assignments included duty at Marine Corps' Officer Candidates School, the Naval Academy, the Naval Postgraduate School, the staff of the Chief of Chaplains, Pearl Harbor (twice), at sea, and two years in London on exchange with the British Royal Navy. He taught Philosophy of Religion at the Naval Academy and ethics at the Naval Postgraduate School.
In retirement, he has served as a priest associate, interim, and supply priest, coached/mentored clergy, taught at the Naval Postgraduate School as a Visiting Professor of Ethics and Public Policy, consulted for the Episcopal Church's Suffragan Bishop for Federal Ministries, volunteered as a mediator for the Mediation Center of the Pacific, and served on nonprofit boards including the Center on Conscience and War, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship's National Executive Council, the Samaritan Counseling Center of Hawai'i, Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light, and the Nonprofit Net of Greater Boston. His current foci are environmental ethics and stewardship, peacemaking, mentoring leaders/clergy, and strategic planning for churches and nonprofit organizations.
